Granuloma inguinale is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that individuals may acquire on very rare occasions in countries that are developed, and it is one that has been regularly mistaken by some individuals for being other types of STDs like chancroid or syphilis. When an individual acquires this type of sexually transmitted disease it generally causes warts and small ulcers to appear on the affected areas of the skin. Once these painless areas have grown and bust open, the warts and ulcers will then spread to other areas of the skin and the infection will progress. If this type of sexually transmitted disease is left untreated it can be very dangerous for the individual that has been infected. In cases where individuals have acquired this type of STD and antibiotic medications are available, it can be easily treated.

It is important for individuals to become educated on this and other sexually transmitted diseases that can be acquired when adequate protection is not used during any type of sexual activities. Although granuloma inguinale may be treatable with the right medicines, there are some STDs that are not as easily cured, and they can cause people to lose their lives.
