Many years ago, one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases or STDs was syphilis. As a matter of fact, there were so many individuals that contracted this type of STD that it was considered by many people to be at epidemic proportions. This sexually transmitted disease was also one that was feared by those who had and had not acquired it. This is because diagnose was not very easy, which meant that there was also not an effective treatment that could cure the problem. When the disease was allowed to reach its final stages, individuals often suffered from disfigurement, madness, and even the loss of life. Due to continuous studies and research projects being done in both the medical and the scientific fields, there have been numerous advances made in the field of medicine. Although in today’s society syphilis is an extremely rare sexually transmitted disease that people acquire.
